FOXES SKIPPER PROUD OF TEAM

NORTHAMPTON Foxes skipper Nicolai Klindt expressed pride in the performance as the newest team in British Speedway gained their first-ever victory on Thursday.

The Foxes produced a terrific second-half performance to come from behind against Leicester, winning 48-42 at the International Shaleway to pick up their first points in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

And whilst it was only their seventh match in total, and several of the earlier ones had resulted in close scorelines, Klindt admitted it was a relief to have the monkey off their backs and put a ‘W’ on the board.

He said: “I’m very proud of the team. It’s a historic night, the first win for the Foxes, and even though we haven’t raced that much it’s still been a long time coming.

“To get it against the local Leicester club is awesome, especially after us getting thrashed at their place, but we showed tonight that we are a much stronger team than that.”

Klindt was involved in a dramatic turnaround which saw the Foxes go from 31-35 down to 41-37 up in the closing stages of the meeting.

After Kye Thomson and Jonas Jeppesen came from the back for a 5-1 in Heat 12, Klindt and the outstanding Jaimon Lidsey got the job done in the massive Heat 13 against top Lions duo Ryan Douglas and Sam Masters.

And after a tough time on his new home track so far this season, Klindt said the race meant a great deal personally as well as what it contributed to the team effort.

He said: “I could hear the crowd in Heat 13, and I’ve said since the first meeting that I love this place because it’s so intimate.

“You can hear and feel the fans cheering you on, and for myself it was a very important win.

“We made a fair few changes for the meeting, and after we sussed it out and I got my head into it, I finished off strong, and now I’ve got to build that momentum.”

The Foxes are back on the road next week when they travel to Ipswich on Thursday (May 28) with anticipation already building for the next home fixture when King’s Lynn return in league action on Thursday June 4.
