LIDSEY CLOSE TO GP SERIES

NORTHAMPTON No.1 Jaimon Lidsey is through to the Grand Prix Challenge as he looks to secure a place in the sport’s top Individual competition for the first time.

Lidsey finished second in his World Championship Qualifier at Slovakian venue Zarnovica on Saturday, to make it through as one of the top five on the day.

In a format where avoiding low-scoring rides is essential, he was never under serious threat having opened up with two wins, before dropping a point to Czech youngster Adam Bednar in Heat 12.

Lidsey then won Heat 16 which secured his qualification even before his final ride, and he then finished second to Kacper Woryna in Heat 20.

The meeting was won by Great Britain’s Robert Lambert on 14 points, one ahead of Lidsey, who was the only rider to defeat Lambert.

The Grand Prix Challenge takes place on Saturday July 25 at Italian venue Terenzano, and it will feature two more British riders in Chris Harris and Anders Rowe, who made it through the Glasgow round. The top four in the GP Challenge will qualify for the 2027 Grand Prix series.

Lidsey will be back for the Foxes when they host Harris’s King’s Lynn team at the Northampton International Shaleway on Thursday (June 4). Tickets are available from: https://northampton-speedway.com/ticket-office .
