FOXES SIGN JEPPESEN

NORTHAMPTON Foxes have made a new signing ahead of their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership clash with Leicester on Thursday.

With Matej Zagar on the sidelines due to a broken ankle, the Foxes have moved to bring in Danish racer Jonas Jeppesen, who will make his debut at the Shaleway against the Lions.

28-year-old Jeppesen is a rider with international experience having raced in the top-flight in Poland, and he also competed in the World Under-21 Championship earlier in his career.

Having returned to UK racing last season with Birmingham, along with a spell at Championship level with Berwick, Jeppesen switched to Workington in the second tier this year and has been one of the league’s outstanding performers this season.

He has now agreed to join the Foxes and he will team up in the middle-order with fellow countryman Niels-Kristian Iversen, who also makes his debut on Thursday after a delayed start to his UK season due to injury.

Foxes manager Chris Adams said “We look forward to welcoming Jonas into the side in as a replacement for our injured Matej Zagar.

“We wish Matej all the best and a speedy recovery, but with him on the sidelines and already having Niels missing for the first part of the season, we thought it best to get a replacement for the time being.

“I’ve known Jonas from last year with my time at Birmingham and I know he’s a good rider and team man. He’s been going well for Workington this year and I’m sure he can do a good job for us here at the Foxes.

“With having two of his fellow countrymen in the side and also riding in the same team as Troy Batchelor (at Workington) I’m sure he will have no trouble settling in.

“Niels is also back on Thursday, so it’s going to feel good in camp as we are starting a meeting with a full team.”

There will be one further change to the Northampton line-up on Thursday as British Under-21 Champion Sam Hagon guests for Luke Harrison, who is away in Prague representing Great Britain in the FIM Speedway of Nations 2 which takes place on Friday.

Tickets for Thursday’s meeting are available in advance from https://northampton-speedway.com/ticket-office and will also be available on the night (both cash and card).
