SHEFFIELD v FOXES, PREVIEW
NORTHAMPTON Foxes race their final two matches of their debut Premiership season in the space of two nights this week, starting at Sheffield on Wednesday (7.30pm).
The trip to Owlerton has been hastily rearranged after last week’s postponement in order to be completed before the cut-off with the Tigers still needing to confirm their finishing position, and at least mathematically their play-off place, although the latter is a formality.
Then on Thursday the Foxes will stage their final home team meeting of 2026 when they face King’s Lynn at the Shaleway.
Due to the short notice of the Sheffield rearrangement and clashing fixtures elsewhere which take priority, Northampton are unable to track a full side at Owlerton.
We apologise to our supporters for this, but we have no choice in the matter as Danish commitments take priority for Niels-Kristian Iversen and Nicolai Klindt, whilst Kye Thomson is involved in Championship play-off action for Edinburgh, as Wednesday is a designated Championship night in the UK.
In their places the Foxes have booked Leicester’s Sam Masters to stand in for Iversen at No.1, Ipswich’s Jason Edwards will replace Klindt, and rider replacement will be in operation for Thomson.
The Foxes will be back at full strength for the home match against King’s Lynn on Thursday which takes place on a designated Premiership race night.
Sheffield remain without long-term injury victim Jack Holder, and they bring in Max Fricke as a guest in a move presumably with the play-offs in mind.
Co-promoter Paul Hunsdon said: “We were instructed that we had to take this meeting, but obviously it’s not ideal that we are without our two top Danes, and Kye is racing in the Championship play-offs.
“This meeting has to be run before September 17, and with us already running at home on that night, this was the only date that Sheffield could stage the meeting.
“Our apologies to the Northampton fans that we aren’t tracking as strong a team as we had hoped, but there’s nothing else we can do.
“The options were hugely limited due to meetings and commitments elsewhere, and we’d like to thank Sam and Jason for agreeing to come in and help us out.”
Unfortunately Sheffield do not stream their home matches so there is no live coverage available, but our social channels will follow the action and updates will also be available from the official BSP service at https://live.britishspeedway.co.uk/ .
