NINE DAYS OUT FOR LUKE
NORTHAMPTON Foxes’ Rising Star Luke Harrison faces just over a week out of action after his horrific crash in Thursday’s match against King’s Lynn.
Harrison’s front wheel made contact with the rear wheel of Lynn rider Cooper Rushen as they entered the main straight in Heat 2, leading to a heavy fall and a further impact when the following Jody Scott had nowhere to go in avoidance.
Harrison was ruled out of the meeting with concussion, abrasions to his arm and facial damage, and due to the concussion he will be signed out of racing for a mandatory period of nine days.
That means he will miss the Foxes’ trip to Sheffield next Thursday, as well as upcoming meetings for his Championship club Scunthorpe against Berwick.
But given the potential severity of the accident, there was general relief that both Harrison and Scott could walk away after treatment – even though Harrison admits he can’t remember too much about it!
He said: “I definitely don’t feel the best I’ve ever felt, but to be honest I’ve definitely felt worse, so I consider myself quite lucky really.
“I remember going over his back wheel and then I don’t actually remember anything until I got into the medical room.
“But I’ve watched the replay since, and I don’t think it’s really best that I go too much into it. I’ve got my opinions and I’m sure other people have their opinions, so I don’t really want to say too much.
“At the end of the day it’s racing, it happens, and I’m sure it will happen again at some point.
“I’ve got the next nine days out which is a bit of a shame, and I miss some big meetings which is a bit disappointing. I’ve just got to work hard and come back stronger.”
The Foxes will bring in a guest rider in the Rising Star berth for the match at Owlerton next week, with Harrison hopefully able to resume in the home clash with Leicester at the Shaleway on May 21.
