KLINDT IS FOXES SKIPPER

NORTHAMPTON Foxes have named Nicolai Klindt as their club captain ahead of their opening meeting at King’s Lynn on Monday.
The experienced Danish star takes the role for British Speedway’s newest club having led their first opponents to the KO Cup Final last season.

Team manager Chris Adams says Klindt was the obvious choice to take on the captaincy, and is looking forward to resuming a working relationship which began way back in 2008 at Wolverhampton.

Adams said: “I’ve lived virtually next to Nicolai for the last 15 years, so we have a close-knit bond and I class him as a friend.

“That’s not the reason why he’s got the captaincy job, but he’s just someone who I know very well and who is very good around the other riders.
“He’s also very good in the media, and when he’s talking during the live coverage of the sport, and he definitely fits the bill.”

The Foxes are set for a busy week on the road as the trip to the Adrian Flux Arena is followed by a visit to Ipswich on Thursday, both in the southern section of the KO Cup.

However, they will be without Niels-Kristian Iversen for their opening fixture as the Dane is not yet ready for a racing return after a heavy crash at King’s Lynn during Klindt’s Testimonial meeting last month.

Northampton will cover Iversen’s absence at the Adrian Flux Arena by operating the rider replacement facility. This means Iversen’s four rides in the programme will be shared amongst his team-mates.

Given that he is ranked second in their starting line-up, all team members including No.1 Jaimon Lidsey are entitled to take one of Iversen’s rides.
